Josh Duggar was named in a police report as the “alleged offender” in an underage sexual abuse probe, according to a bombshell new report.
The first-born of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar's 19 Kids and Counting was a minor at the time and the alleged sexual assault was fourth degree.
Multiple sources who have seen the report and are familiar with the case told In Touch all about it, along with who turned Josh in to the cops.
He was brought into the Arkansas State Police by none other than his dad, Jim Bob Duggar, who caught him leaving a young girl’s bedroom.
He did so after he “learned something inappropriate happened,” one source said, assuring the publication that “I saw and read the report."
"It clearly stated that Jim Bob brought his son Josh into the Arkansas State Police and spoke to a state trooper about Josh’s involvement."
The offense, allegedly, was "inappropriate touching with a minor."
Of course, given the things not allowed by the Duggars, that could just mean full frontal hugging ... but we're guessing it was more serious.
Jim Bob wouldn't call the cops for a non-side-hug, would he?!
We only hearing about this now because a bizarre turn of events prevented officials from finishing the investigation and potentially prosecuting.
The Arkansas state trooper who originally took the report about Josh never followed up on the case, then was caught up in one much worse.
That same trooper was later arrested and convicted on unrelated child pornography charges and is now serving a 56-year prison sentence.
When the trooper ran into trouble, the Arkansas State Police alerted the Child Abuse Hotline about the Duggar case that had been inactive.
The Crimes Against Children Division and Springdale (Ark.) P.D. both got involved, however the three-year statute of limitations had passed.
At that point, it would not have been possible to pursue prosecution of Josh even if the allegations warranted it, so the case was discontinued.
“A technicality prevented any further action,” a source said.
“That’s been the biggest regret in all of this.”
Sgt. Darrel Hignite, identified by multiple sources as the officer who led the investigation into the allegations about Josh, was contacted by In Touch.
“I can’t comment or discuss [this case] because of the sensitive nature and because it involved a juvenile,” he told the celebrity magazine.
The first report was filed shortly before 2005, and whether it's true or not, the 27-year-old Josh has given his family plenty to be proud of.
Josh and his wife, the pregnant Anna Duggar, have three kids and live in Washington, D.C., where he is a lobbyist for the Family Research Council.
