Sherri Shepherd and Lamar Sally have finally settled their complicated and on-going custody battle, with a judge declaring her the mother of her surrogate child.
Say what now? Allow us to explain ...
In May 2014, accusations surfaced that Lamar Sally cheated on Sherri Shepherd. It only got more bizarre and contentious from that point forward.
It was splitsville for the couple, which fought for custody rights regarding their unborn baby that was being carried via a surrogate mother at the time.
Unexpectedly for fans of The View mainstay, Sherri Shepherd abandoned the surrogacy and even skipped out on the baby's delivery.
Since then, months of battling over financial responsibility has ensued.
Finally, today, the matter was resolved as the court declared Shepherd the mother of the 8-month-old baby, holding her at least partially financially responsible.
"It's bittersweet," Lamar Sally said outside of the courtroom. "I'm glad it's over, but I feel sad what it had to come to. Now I can go back to L.A. and tend to my son."
Craig Bluestein, a legal representative for the baby stated, “There was some additional evidence put on the record involving some video clips involving Ms. Shepherd.”
A clip of Shepherd "expressing excitement over her and Lamar going to have a baby through the help of a surrogate carrier with no genetic connection” was used as evidence.
Shepherd did not appear in court, and her lawyers declined to comment.
The legal team for Lamar and baby seemed pleased:
"I feel very good. I think little LJ, who is not yet 1 year old, needed some protection. Justice was served today,” Bluestein states.
Sherri has a history of custody drama. In July 2014, Sherri Shepherd won a custody battle against her first husband, Jeff Tarpley.
