The self-proclaimed King Kendrick is engaged!
Kendrick Lamar, 27, confirmed today in an interview on Power 105.1’s Breakfast Club that he is marrying his high school sweetheart, Whitney Alford.
While on the show promoting his new album To Pimp a Butterfly, he addressed the rumors of his upcoming wedding.
Expressing his commitment to Alford, he stated, “Yeah, yeah, definitely... I'm loyal to the soil.”
He continued, "At the end of the day, you want to always, always have real people around you, period. Whether it's male or female, and everybody that's been around me, they've been around since day one... I always show respect when respect has been given, and people that have been by your side, you're supposed to honor that."
Lamar is known for maintaining a private life out of the spotlight. So the announcement of this news can only indicate that Lamar and Alford are serious.
In fact, the couple started dating 10 years ago while in high school.
Kendrick’s affection for his bride-to-be was sentimental and endearing. He said, "I wouldn't even call her my girl. That’s my best friend. I don't even like the term that society has put in the world as far as being a companion — she's somebody I can tell my fears to."
In the fantasy world of stardom, where celebrity romance stays within celebrity circles, we love this fairytale story of a regular girl marrying her superstar man.
Let's just hope Whitney shows him more love than Azealia Banks.
