Who is this kid and where did he come from?

The mystery of Forest Boy - a kid believed to be 17 and a Switzerland native, who claims to have spent five years wandering in the woods before turning up in Berlin last month - continues to vex investigators in Europe.

A couple from Switzerland has come forward claiming that Forest Boy is their grandson and have agreed to submit a DNA sample. So far, officials are skeptical.

Forest Boy purportedly spent five years living in the wilderness after what he claims was his father's death. He showed up out of nowhere September 5 in Berlin.

He has been under German care since he showed up the city hall, reportedly pleading to officials: "I'm alone in the world. I don't know who I am. Please help me."

Here's the background on his alleged journey and what police think:

The blond-haired, blue-eyed kid claims his late father, who he calls Ryan, took him to live in off the grid in the woods (believed to be on the Czech side of the Ore mountains) following the auto accident death of his mother, Doreen.

He said his father recently died, spurring his journey toward civilization.

In recent weeks, officials in Germany have been doubting the validity of the boy's story, as there are no records for an auto accident involving a Doreen.

Noor have they found the grave where he said he buried his father.

In addition, the tent he brought to city hall had nary the wear and tear it would have, under the assumption he'd been camping out for five whole years.

Another red flag was the boy's reticence to pose for a picture as Interpol tried to track down his next-of-kin. Scared? Skeptical? Disinterested? Who knows.

"Unfortunately, it seems that the boy told his guardian that he wasn't interested in discovering who he was," a police source told the newspaper.
