Hank Williams Jr. and his rowdy friends are long gone, having been fired by ESPN Thursday in the wake of his controversial remarks about President Obama.
Who will the network replace him with on Monday Night Football?
We guarantee it's not who you think, and likely isn't permanent. But NFL great Barry Sanders will now be doing a video segment that previews the game.
"Ok, I admit it," the Hall of Fame running back Tweeted. "I will be at MNF this week and doing the intro." Said ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz also said:
"This is the format we'll likely use the remainder of the season. We haven't made any decisions beyond that." Seems like a nice quick fix for the network.
Pump out a slickly produced hype video, involve a football figure associated with one of the teams (Detroit hosts Jay Cutler and the Bears), bada bing.
Perfectly usable content, certainly less expensive to produce and with little chance of anyone comparing Obama to Hitler. Call it a win-win all around.
