Teen Mom has plenty of critics. Rosie O'Donnell? Not one of them.
At the Sundance Film Fest in Park City, Utah, the mom of four said that she and her teenaged daughter recently checked out the controversial MTV hit.
"I have to say it's interesting," O'Donnell said, reflecting on her teen's take. "My daughter is 13. I watch it with her. I think the fantasy for adopted children is to have a baby of their own, and then keeping it, which their mother did not do."
Rosie O'Donnell, left, and Teen Mom star/defender Farrah Abraham.
Added the comic: "The rate of teenage pregnancy is up, so when my daughter saw that [Teen Mom 2] was on the air, I said 'Well, let's watch it.'"
"At the end of almost every episode the mothers say they wish they used protection or waited, 'My whole life is over,' or 'I can't live this way.'"
"I think that sends out a positive message."
Cast member Farrah Abraham, who has defended the show publicly, would surely agree with Rosie's perspective, but clearly not everyone does.
Her opinion wasn't shared by Kim Kardashian, who ripped the MTV hit last week, saying it makes pregnancy look cool and glorifies the stars.
O'Donnell did sort of agree there: "I do feel sad that some of these girls are getting pregnant in an effort to get on TV ... That's a little tragic."
