The old "scheduling conflict" excuses were bandied about, but are we really expected to believe that multi-millionaire A-list celebrities are incapable of taking a day off to go to a wedding?
Rumors of a feud began to make the rounds online, and the claims were bolstered by comments in which Pitt seemed to throw shade at Clooney's marriage.
Now, sources say the beef is real, and it's gotten so bad the two A-listers (and their wives) are no longer on speaking terms.
According to Radar Online, the Clooney-Pitt feud stems from the bidding war over the film rights to a book entitled Law of the Jungle.
Clooney had intended to direct a big screen adaptation of the true, David-and-Goliath story of a Amazon village and its fight against big oil.
However, insiders say Pitt swooped in and bought up the rights at the last minute.
This was reportedly a long-coveted passion project for George, and sources say he was shocked when his former bestie stole it away from him.
"George can’t forgive him," says one insider. "He thinks Brad’s a big phony now – praising him to the press and then stabbing him in the back!”
As for Pitt, the source claims Mr. Jolie "can't stand the sight" of Clooney these days.
Yikes. If there's any truth to the rumors of Clooney and Amal Alamuddin getting divorced, Gorgeous George may soon find himself in a very lonely position.
Fortunately, we're sure it won't take him long to find some new companionship.
