First, Transformers 5. Now, Furious 8.
We're still waiting on you, White Men Can't Jump 2.
But Vin Diesel confirmed today at CinemaCon that not only is an eighth edition of the Furious franchise in the works… it already has a release date!
Circle April 14, 2017 on your calendar, movie fans.
Getting choked up, Diesel told the crowd of theater owners this afternoon:
“It means a lot to me to get your blessing.”
He then took the audience back to two years ago when, on the same stage at Caesars Palace, Diesel and Paul Walker said they planned to move forward on a seventh film in the action franchise.
Walker, of course, died in a car accident toward the end of 2013.
“We were giddy and excited,” said Diesel. “You all gave me so much confidence. There was so much love.”
Furious 7, which features footage of Walker prior to his death, has garnered over $1.15 billion at the global box office, making it number-7 on the list of highest-grossing films of all time.
It’s on track to end up with more than $1.4 billion overall. That's... staggering.
Are you excited for Furious 8?!?
