She just became the mother of a beautiful baby boy this week, but proud parent Jill Duggar is quick to gush about her helpful, doting husband Derick as well.
With a staggering 15 younger siblings growing up, and currently training to be a midwife herself, the reality star knows a thing or two (or 202) about babies.
Derick Dillard, who grew up in a situation much different than what we see when we watch 19 Kids and Counting online each week, has only one brother.
Still, he's making up for lack of experience with enthusiasm (see the man's Instagram for every cheesy Dad-in-Training t-shirt ever made) and effort.
It's paying off. Granted, Jill gave him a little more time than expected to get ready by staying pregnant for almost 42 weeks, but he hit the ground running.
Jill, 23, says that Derick, 26, is already "doing amazing at being a dad" to their baby son, Israel David Dillard, who arrived just before midnight on Monday.
Derick, she says, changed their son's diaper two hours after he was born, gave him his first bath, and is already a "pro" at burping Israel, Jill reports.
"I have a really steep learning curve," he admits, "but I think I'm catching on fast!"
That being said, it is pretty tiring, as first time parents everywhere can attest.
"I'm a little bit exhausted," a weary Dillard admits to People Magazine.
He does have his hands full ... literally. At 9 lbs., 10 oz., and measuring 23 inches long, the Derick and Jill's baby will make for "a great tight end," they say.
Congrats again to the couple on their precious new arrival, who will no doubt be given all the love in the world from his mom and dad as he grows up.
Whatever you think of the Duggars' political and religious beliefs, that simple but profound fact is wonderful, and something we should all embrace.
