A handful of radio stations around the country have yanked the Little Big Town single "Girl Crush" because listeners have complained about its content.
The track tells the tale of a woman who is jealous of her ex-boyfriend's new paramour.
According to Alana Lynn, radio host at the Boise station 104.3 FM, she received a number of calls and emails accusing her of "promoting the gay agenda" after playing the song, whose lyrics include the following:
I want to taste her lips cause they taste like you/I want to drown myself in a bottle of her perfume/I want her long blond hair, I want her magic touch/Yeah cause maybe then, you’d want me just as much.
Lynn said listeners have threatened to boycott the station and, as a result, she had to yank the song from her morning lineup.
The Washington Post, meanwhile, reports that numerous radio stations across America have pulled the song for similar reasons.
One Texas program director, for example, received the following complaint:
"You are just promoting the gay agenda on your station, and I am changing the channel and never listening to you ever again!"
Take a listen yourself to "Girl Crush" and decide:
Isaiah Washington got the boot from Grey's Anatomy, and pretty much derailed his own career, by referring to then co-star T.R. Knight by a gay slur ... then doing it again whilst insisting he didn't do it.
The actor got into hot water with homophobic tweets towards writer George Stark, then in a separate incident, called a photographer a "c--ks--king f--got" which he somehow said was not a gay slur.
In the fall of 2012, Hilton said: “"Gay guys are the horniest people in the world... they’re disgusting. Dude, most of them probably have AIDS." Not much we can add to that.
In 1991, Gibson told Spanish newspaper El Pais: “With this look, who’s going to think I’m gay? I don’t lend myself to that type of confusion. Do I look like a homosexual? Do I talk like them? Do I move like them?†Was this a long time ago? Yes. But has Gibson's recent behavior made you think he's grown more tolerant?
When Frank Ocean came out, Lil Scrappy made a plea to “real women†who want to deal with “real men†so they could “keep the AIDS situation down."
