Earlier today, Leonard Nimoy died at the age of 83.

The beloved actor, best known for his role as Dr. Spock on Star Trek (the TV show and the movie versions), passed away at his home in Bel-Air, having lost a battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Last year, Nimoy went public with the diagnosis and blamed the disease on many years of smoking, even though he had given up the habit over three decades ago.

In the wake of his passing, numerous celebrities have taken to Twitter to express their condolences and share their memories of the veteran star.

William Shatner, for example, wrote of his long-time friend and colleague:

"I loved him like a brother. We will all miss his humor, his talent, and his capacity to love."

Scroll through the above photo gallery to read other tributes to Nimoy and take note of his final Tweet:

A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP.
