The Academy Awards' In Memoriam segment paid tribute to a lot of great stars, but the most buzz was generated by one who wasn't included: Joan Rivers.
The Oscar snubs keep coming even at the actual ceremony, apparently.
Robin Williams, Mike Nichols, Lauren Bacall, Edward Herrmann, Mickey Rooney, and Maya Angelou were among those honored during in an emotional montage.
The legendary Joan Rivers, who died in September following complications from outpatient surgery at the age of 81, was nowhere to be found, however.
Rivers never won an Oscar, and was better known for her comedy than acting, but was nonetheless a successful actress and a Hollywood institution.
She appeared in films including The Muppets Take Manhattan, Spaceballs, and The Smurfs, and her absence sent Twitter into a frenzy on Sunday.
People watching were outraged by the perceived snub, and took to social media to vent as Jennifer Hudson performed "I Can't Let Go" from Smash.
Among the comments regarding this 2015 Academy Awards controversy:
- Dear @TheAcademy : It was really shameful that you didn't include #JoanRivers in your "In Memoriam" tribute at the #Oscars. That was wrong.
